Manic Monday ~ Reading, Rocking, & Roadtripping!

www.dgbookblog.red.rocks

My Manic Mondays are intended to share little snippets about myself, and although it’s pretty obvious that I love to read, I also have other obsessions, if you willincluding my love for concerts and travel…

I know I’ve mentioned before that I have a huge love for music. It reaches my soul in the most unexpected way, and I love how it can bring back nostalgic memories of my life experiences during their time of release. I’m more of an alternative kind of girl, with a huge love of the 90’s, but I’m really not picky and enjoy all genres of music. I also love to go to concerts. Regardless of my age, I am the biggest and quite possibly the cheesiest fangirl at shows, always collecting a t-shirt and singing at the top of my lungs. I really can’t seem to help myself!

Last year, my ‘Daisy Guy,’ brother, and I deemed it to be the ‘Year of the Concert’.

We all share an incredible love for music and concerts, and being that life and other commitments had stifled our ability to attend many for quite some time, decided it was time to do something about it. We made a list of all the bands we would like to see if they toured, and we were actually able to make many of the concerts happen. Some we loved more than others, but the experiences we shared were all well worth it!

We were able to see Twenty One Pilots, Jon Bellion, Barnes Courtney, Imagine Dragons, James Blunt, Ed Sheeran, K. Flay, Grouplove, The Head and the Heart, Judah and the Lion, Michael Franti, and Sturgill Simpson. Not too shabby right???

My favorite was Twenty One Pilots, and I would rank their show up close (but not quite) to Justin Timberlake, who is not only easy on the eyes but a great singer and performer as well. However, my best overall concert experience of the year took place on a short weekend trip to Colorado, and the whole adventure made for the perfect combination of Reading, Rocking, & Roadtripping

I’ve heard for years that until you’ve seen a live concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Jefferson, Colorado, you haven’t truly ‘experienced’ a real concert. This statement could not have been more true, and it was a completely amazing experience! Grouplove opened up for The Head and the Heart, and I’ll admit, I’ve either outgrown Grouplove or they’ve become pretty washed up. I got a little nervous that I wasn’t very familiar with The Head and the Heart, but my brother has mad love for them, so I stayed optimistic. I was absolutely delighted and impressed with their performance (thank goodness!) and instantly fell in love with their music! They were fun, charismatic, and had more of a ‘folky’ feel with their music and lyrics, which I really enjoyed. The surrounding views and sound of the music was incredible, and I can still feel the chills as I write this now months later!

The lovely Amy Daws, Julie Huss, Sarah Ney, Kim Holden were only a few of many authors at Bookish Denver!

Of course, I also managed to finagle a Bookish Denver author signing into our trip as well, and the guys were such incredible sports! My husband always attends these events with me, but this was the first for my brother. I was so surprised when he told me to grab him a ticket and then really worried of what his thoughts would be on it. We had such a blast, and I personally think they loved all the attention they got from all of the ladies! Their name tags said they were only ‘The Husband’ and ‘The Brother,’ but they were so dear for attending with me. Their endless support in all of my reading endeavors only speaks for a tiny bit of the multitude of amazing that they are!

We also spent a lot of time exploring Downtown Denver on our journey, and I loved the quaint vibe and feel of the whole downtown area! I popped into The Tattered Cover Book Store, which is an amazing old bookstore founded back in 1971, and I probably could have spent forever amongst the incredibly musty smells of all the old books!

Last, but not least, we took in a Colorado Rockies game the last night there as well. Although we are huge Texas Rangers fans, we share a huge love for baseball, and their stadium was beautiful!

About midway through the game, it began to rain, and we ended up spending the rest of the evening consuming the nightlife and one-too-many libations that made me almost not be able to make my flight home the next day. That is probably the only thing about our amazing ‘Reading, Rocking, and Roadtripping‘ adventure that I would not recommend!

Sometimes, it’s just nice to feel like a kid again… if only for a little while!

  1. Gorgeous pics! I’m also obsessed with the 90’s and love Twenty One Pilots. I have to say that concerts are sort of a thing of the past for me right now, but hope to attend some more in the future. Great post! ❤

    1. Thank you so much! 🤗 Hopefully you’ll get to pick up going to concerts again at some point too! Now that our kids are older, we have the ability to do more things like concerts again…that is if we’re not too tired! Haha! 😂

  2. OMG!!!!! I visisted Denver last summer and wanted to attend a concert at the Red Rock!!! Plus the author’s event began the day after our leave!!! I’m so happy for you 🙂

  3. I love finding little book shops whenever I’m in a new place. If I spot one, it’s 100% chance I will be going in for who knows how long.

  4. I love this post. Thank you for sharing this story!
I love music. You have a really diverse taste in music. I can dig it 😀
Also, your brother and your husband ARE troopers. That book store in Denver looks awesome. It could totally be the model for Fortnum’s in Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chicks series.

  5. I love this post so much. I used to live in Colorado and spent nearly every weekend in Denver. Rockies games were so fun to go to and exploring Downtown Denver is always so nice. I’ve yet to go to a concert at Red Rocks though! I need to!
Glad you had a blast! Your husband and brother are such good sports!
