Fireworks by Sarina Bowen was a light and sweet second chance romance, and I’m really looking forward to reading more of her True North Series!
AND… Fireworks is NOW AVAILABLE!

Skye Copeland is on paid leave from her broadcasting job after accidentally drawing a pecker on the traffic map.
Let that sink in. Like it’s her fault the traffic pattern created a perfect schlong?
Skye isn’t laughing. She needs this job. And that’s the only reason she’s willing to chase down a story in her least favorite place—that hell on earth known as Vermont.
A quick trip. In and out. Much like – never mind. She can sneak into the town that once tried to break her, get the story and slide back into the good graces of her producer. Easy peasy.
But things go sideways the moment she steps over the county line. Her stepsister is running from a violent drug dealer. And the cop on the case is none other than Benito Rossi, the man who broke Skye’s teenage heart.
His dark brown eyes still tear her apart. And even as she steels herself to finally tell him off after twelve years, the old fireworks are still there.
Things are about to go boom.

From the moment I picked up Brooklynaire earlier in the year, I have become such a big fan of all things Sarina Bowen. Although I have yet to dive into her True North Series, I’m always eager to get my hands on any of her books, so why not start with the sixth book right? Well, thank goodness, it read well as a standalone. With a touch of suspense and Bowen’s witty humor, Fireworks really made for such a sweet second chance romance!
Skye and Benito’s characters were both very genuine and fun. Skye was somewhat insecure at times, but it was totally understandable considering her youth. She really endured a lot from her pervy stepfather, and I really admired her courage to break away from the awful situation. Benito was incredibly charming, and I loved how he completely adored and was so protective of Skye!
Although twelve years separated them, Skye and Benito had established such a strong bond of friendship in high school that never went away. It was a little surprising to me that Benito didn’t seek Skye out during those years and also that Skye held back in addressing the ‘grad prom’ incident with Benito after all their time apart. However, I really did enjoy how they came to find each other again. There was definitely a ‘boom’ of fireworks and passion between Benito and Skye, and their relationship came back so effortlessly. I especially enjoyed how playful they were with each other!
I love the diversity in Bowen’s stories! This was well written with more of a light and fun feel to it, and it also had a bit of suspense as well, which I really enjoyed. I didn’t have quite the emotional attachment to Skye and Benito’s romance as I have in some of Bowen’s other books. The story was told in dual point of views with flashbacks to Skye and Benito’s teenage years throughout, and I think I just needed a little more insight earlier on. However, all in all, I still enjoyed the story!
Fireworks made for a light, fun, and really sweet romance! I am very curious to know more about the secondary characters in the story as well – especially Zara – and look forward to reading the rest of this True North Series!

You’re braver than me jumping in at #6😬 Wonderful review, DG!
Thank you! I was a little surprised at myself for doing that- lol!
I feel like a lot of people are raving about this series!! I’m a little intimidated at being 6 books behind already… But, I’ll have to keep them in mind for some beach reads!
Great idea there! I do get overwhelmed too with so many. Her books seem to usually be pretty light-hearted, so I’m thinking they would move along quickly if that makes sense. I’m definitely curious!
Currently reading so I’ll wait to read your review 😀
I look forward to hearing what you think! 😃
I love that you loved this one! Now, you must go back and read the rest of the series. This is actually my least favorite book in the series. I liked it, but the others shined more in my opinion.
Oh good to hear! I think I’ll start with book one. I sure jumped in on this one – lol! I am curious tho since you’ve read them all…I don’t usually have any issues with Bowen’s stories – really at all. Do you think that maybe because I starting further into the series it might have affected my thoughts on it?
No, probably not. You might even like it more.
AW, so I did ok then! I was kind of worried about that! 😬
Wonderful review Daisy!!!
Thank you dear! ❤️
Fantastic review!! I think you’re going to be pleasantly surprised when you go back and read the earlier ones in this series. What’s funny is that everyone seems to have different favourites, so you’ll definitely find at least one to love! I LOVED Zara’s book (mostly because I LOVED Dave), so I can’t wait to see if you enjoy it as well!
