Going into Verity by Colleen Hoover, I really had no what to expect…other than the UNEXPECTED…

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.
A standalone romantic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

I really had no idea going into Verity what to expect…other than the UNEXPECTED. That’s exactly what I got!
The characters that should be relatable were. I liked them and felt for them, as well as their pain and happiness. I was intrigued by Lowen as an author and Jeremy as a parent and husband. There were some very sexy and steamy scenes in the story, and it was romantic, although perhaps it was wrong, or right, or wrong, and there was also a happily ever after. I think…
This wasn’t a feel good story at all, but I don’t think that was Hoover’s intention, and kudos to her for changing things up. Clearly, this unique story is nothing like any of her other works. It was just …strange, creepy, and parts of it did leave me in chills. Other parts left me feeling a little sick. I am a mother after all, so anything that is harmful to children is quite painful.
Verity was also an extremely well written and executed story. It was full of revealed truths to keep me on my toes (some terrible ones, I might add) and twists that equaled some pretty WTF moments. From the very get-go, I couldn’t put the book down – even when I really wanted to.
The Queen of long-winded reviews is stumped here. I really don’t know what else to say and don’t want to give away too much of the mysterious story. It was an engaging and suspenseful read, which I liked. I’m not sure this story was really for me, so I’ll have to average my rating, because again, Hoover did a brilliant job with it. If you’re looking for a really different, dark, creepy, sexy, and twisty ride of a romance, check Verity out for sure!

I am intrigued by this book though I haven’t read any of the previous books by the author… I want to read this. Great review
Thank you! Right? I couldn’t resist checking it out – it’s totally different from all of her romances! I hope you enjoy it if you read it! 😀
Great review, DG! I’m ignoring your rating because this does sound like my kind of book (though your rating is good!). I can’t wait to read this one.
I know, and I’m totally in the minority not giving it a bazillion stars I think! Usually I’m ok with this type of read, but for some reason it just got to me. Probably because it was SO well written – lol! Thank you dear! 💕
I’m so curious about this one…but I just don’t know if I should make this my first CoHo read 😂
Great (not so rambling) review, lovely.
I would start with something else – I really enjoyed Confess! 😄
Great (even if it’s shorter than your usual) review Daisy! But I am not sure if this book si meant for me either …
Thanks Sophie! I wouldn’t really recommend it unless you’re just feeling adventurous!
For not knowing what to say, I think you said it perfectly! Great review! This book definitely was unexpected.
Thank you dear! It actually made me feel bad not to enjoy it more. Usually I love stepping outside of the box! 😬
Great review! Honestly this is the first book from Colleen Hoover I really want to read 🙂
Thanks Gemma! Well, if it sounds up your alley then I would definitely go for it. So many people really loved it!
