Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000031_00006]

An emotional friends to lovers romance full of risky secrets and late-night lessons in seduction.

Dylan is my best friend and the only person in my life who understands me. He doesn’t mind my social awkwardness or my weird history. The only glitch? He doesn’t know that I’ve been hopelessly, desperately in love with him since the first day we picked apples together in his family’s orchard.

But I know better than to confess.

Now that we’re both in college together, I’m seeing a new side of him. College Dylan drinks and has a lot of sex. None of it with me. Until the night I foolishly ask him to tutor me in more than algebra…and he actually says yes.

But the cool morning light shows me how badly I’ve endangered our friendship. And I don’t know if anything will be the same again.

Heartland by Sarina Bowen was a delight! As the seventh book in her True North Series of standalones, this friends to lovers romance was such a fun and feel-good read that left me with a big smile on my face!

Dylan and Chastity’s complex characters really stole my heart. With Chasity’s unique past, I really felt for her and admired the optimism and courage she had in opening up more about it and trying to move forward. Outwardly, Dylan was so charismatic and carefree – definitely the type of hero that everyone couldn’t help but be drawn to. But underneath his charm and pretense, he was at a crossroads in his life in deciding about his future with his family’s farm and had his own scars holding him back.

The one certainty that Dylan and Chastity both shared was their friendship, and I loved their playfulness and how they perfectly complimented each other. Their bond was so strong, and Dylan’s protective and tender nature with Chastity was incredibly sweet. Of course, he was also totally aloof to the fact that she had fallen in love with him, but the passion was definitely there and Chastity would certainly change that!

Bowen did such a great job creating this well-developed and emotional plot, and the transition in Dylan and Chastity’s friends to lovers romance flowed effortlessly. They had their bumps along the way, but I really enjoyed that it wasn’t overly dramatic. Bowen’s witty and unique touches with the songs and the caramel business also kept the story with a fun and lighthearted feel, and I really flew through it hoping for Dylan and Chastity’s happily ever after!

I absolutely adored Dylan and Chastity’s family and friends, and the lengths that they would go to show their support and love for them brought such a whole-hearted feel to the story. I have to admit that I haven’t read all of the previous books of the True North Series yet, but Heartland read perfectly well as a standalone, and I’m really excited to go back and meet all of the characters in this series!

    1. Thanks Deanna, it was incredibly sweet! I’m such a ding-dong and didn’t realize Fireworks was a part of this series too. I read/reviewed it and thought it was really good too. So I don’t have too many to get back to lol. I’ve got to quit reading series out of order!

  1. This book is all over the book world! I haven’t tried this author yet but have heard a lot of great things about her.
