aboutthebook

Secrets, desires, and exquisite pie. It’s all in a day’s work at The Company.

Growing up, I was the rough guy from the wrong neighborhood who couldn’t catch a break. Posy was the pampered girl I tried to impress. But I managed to steal only a single kiss before I had to skip town.

Now I’m back, and the tables are turned. Posy runs a struggling pie shop. I’m the VP of a secretive billion dollar security company.

Not that I can tell her.

There’s a murderer on the loose in New York, and he seems to spend a lot of time at Posy’s shop. I can’t let on that I’m here to bring him down before he can harm a hair on her pretty head.

Going undercover as Posy’s new barista wasn’t my idea. I don’t even drink coffee. But now I have to call her “boss,” and do everything the curvy perfectionist asks of me. I’d forgotten how much we infuriate each other, and that she somehow fills me with both irritation and desire in the same breath.

There’s nobody more skilled at stealth ops than me. I can bring this killer down. Right after I take a cold shower. And just as soon as I figure out how to make a skinny peppermint latte with milk poured in the shape of a kitten…

Note: This is Gunnar’s book (Max’s right-hand man)

I’m always a fan of Sarina Bowen’s romances, and after she set such a great stage of intrigue in Moonlighter, I really couldn’t wait to know more about the mysterious business, The Company. Of course, I can’t ever resist plots surrounding hackers, but along with suspenseful moments and really endearing characters, Loverboy certainly proved to be a fun and exciting read!

I really enjoyed following Gunnar and Posy’s enemies-to-lovers romance with their feisty and flirty banter. The attraction was definitely there, but after the way he had treated her in the past along with her failed marriage to Spalding, Posy was definitely a tough nut to crack when it came to relationships. However, Gunnar completely swooped in with his unwavering support and determination to protect and prove himself to her, and I loved how he woo’d and finally won Posy over!

While Moonlighter offered an overall sweet story, I really enjoyed how Bowen made Loverboy more of a mysterious and suspenseful read. I also loved the added descriptive coffees, foods, and flavors of Posy’s pie shop to this storyline as well. The dynamics, loyalties, and friendships between all of The Company employees have me looking forward to even more in this standalone series. I’m always drawn to those temperamental heroes, so I’m really hoping to get Max’s story next!
