If Alessandra Torre was a pitcher in baseball, her latest novel ‘Moonshot’ would most certainly be considered ‘The Perfect Game’! With its’ intriguing baseball storyline, this sports romantic suspense novel completely draws you into the game and captivates you right from the start. Touching on everything from the nuances of the sport and the characterization and careers of the players– Torre wraps it all together with romance and first love, sexy slow burning sizzle and passion, heartache and loss, and mystery and suspense!
Tyler Rollins is not only New York Yankees’ pitching great Frank Rollin’s daughter, but she is also the devoted bat girl for the team. Travelling across the country with her father as a young girl, she has developed a fierce love and loyalty for the game of baseball. However, not growing up around people her own age, she is very naïve and innocent when it comes to relationships and love. When her teenage crush, Chase Stern, is traded to the Yankees along with his troubled past, a possible seed for romance is planted. However, they may be doomed from the start…and then of course ‘The Curse of Chase Stern’ begins.
Torre really knows how to create a very compelling story full of so many layers! Being a fan of the game of baseball myself, I was a little skeptical in how she could possibly mix together the game, romance, mystery, and suspense into the same book. Not only did she ever so successfully combine all of these elements, but it was also completely engaging from the very start, and I had such a hard time putting this book down!
She is also a master at creating such an amazing depth within her characters. I love how she is able to build such imperfect qualities in them yet still make me totally fall in love with them. As Tyler, aka ‘Little League’, seemed to be so young and naïve, she also had such a quiet confidence and strength in herself as well. Everything about Chase should have been wrong with his rowdy past, but his heart and loyalty to love was so very endearing.
I also have to mention the ‘About the Author’ at the end as well. I am always curious about the author’s perspective and why they write what they do, and I can absolutely relate to Torre’s evolving sports journey. I grew up in a huge sports family, and I could have cared less to watch it or really any of it for that matter when I was young. All I really wanted to do was to dream, be the princess that I was, and watch romance movies. However, in my later teenage years, the sports bug finally hit me, and now I am a huge sports fan as well– mostly baseball. AND yes, I am that crazy psycho mom on the sidelines cheering on my kids till my face hurts…and only occasionally run some people around off. Being from Texas, my favorite team is the Texas Rangers, and I loved that she incorporated them (and Pudge) into her story – go Rangers!
Moonshot has a mix of everything that I enjoy reading, and it is definitely a highly recommended and favorite read of 2016 for me!

Baseball isn’t supposed to be a game of life and death…
The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game. Chase … he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.
I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.
Then, the team started losing.
Women started dying.
And everything in my world broke apart.
