My Review:
Jodi Ellen Malpas has created yet another story full of passion, romance, and mystery in her latest novel, ‘The Protector’!
Drop dead gorgeous cover model, Camille Logan, has so much more to offer than what the eye can see. She is feisty and determined to create her own value in life and not live under the umbrella of her wealthy father. Focusing on her independence and making her design career a success, she is quite disappointed with the intrusion of Jake Sharp, a bodyguard who her father hires when mysterious threats are made on her life. His only focus is his job and to protect her from harm, but the greater challenge quickly becomes both of them keeping their emotions at bay.
Everything about Camille was very unexpected. She was so strong and didn’t buy into the whole princess persona, and she was incredibly loyal, compassionate, and caring for others. She was also determined to figure out what was haunting her devastatingly handsome bodyguard.
Behind his darkness he can’t escape, ex-military and trained killer, Jake was just an absolute dream! Underneath his gruff demeanor, he was so down to earth, honest, and actually quite witty. I was completely drawn in by him and felt such compassion for him and his constant struggle in suppressing so much of himself – there was such a surprisingly wonderful man laying deep inside!
Camille was such a ray of sunshine and strength to Jake’s cloudiness and insecurity from his past, and they were such a compliment to each other. I have to admit that initially I was worried this would be another ‘insta-love’ romance. However, I wouldn’t consider this to be the case at all. Although they were both attracted to each other from the start, they both admired and appreciated each other for who they were which further ignited into their all consuming passion for each other. All in all, their relationship was very natural and effortless.
The cover is absolutely gorgeous – definitely one of my favorites of the year!
This was such a good story – complex and gripping and topped off with charming and endearing characters, incredible passion, and by the twists that Malpas is so talented in creating. Highly recommend!
