Seriously, how can you go wrong with any book by Jodi Ellen Malpas? She is amazing at creating passionate and consuming romances, and this was such an exciting start to her new Smoke & Mirrors Duology! The Controversial Princess was a captivating and suspenseful royal read, and the sizzle between Princess Adeline and her sexy American Boy? Smoking hot!

Princess Adeline and Josh Jameson’s characters were so complex with their truly complicated lifestyles. They both lived in the spotlight, yet in two totally different worlds.

‘Rumor has it that Adeline Lockhart is the unruliest royal that’s ever lived.’

Adeline had a sassy and defiant demeanor about her, and she was determined not to conform to the royal ways. I wasn’t really sure what to make of Adeline in the beginning, but in the end, my heart really went out to her. There were so many pressures that came along with being a princess, along with the extremely suffocating lifestyle that accompanied it. The scrutiny of her by the press, as well as her own family, was quite hurtful and cruel, and their demands left Adeline with no flexibility to be herself. She longed for her freedom, but everything about her life was already predetermined with no escape.

‘Twinkly blue eyes that harbor mischief and pure sex, permanently roughed-up brown hair, and scruff to match. He’s perfectly rugged and dangerously handsome.’

Josh Jameson, the sexy American actor, was just charming as all get out and certainly demanding in knowing what he wanted from Adeline. What I loved about him was that underneath all of his dominance was such a gentle, sweet, and caring man. Josh understood Adeline so well, and he was the perfect knight in shining armor to come and rescue her from misery. He was determined for sure, but getting through the royal family and their palace walls wasn’t going to be easy, and no one was on their side.

‘He has made me want. Really want. He has made me desire something because I really want it for myself, not to be disobedient and defy the rules. It both surprises me and scares me.’

I loved Adeline and Josh together! Their relationship blossomed like a dance, a slow and tantalizing tease with a steady rhythm, and then it crescendoed into such a passionate romance. Josh and Adeline’s sexy scenes were scorching, and their story was incredibly sweet, yet oh-so-angsty, really pulling on my heartstrings!

Jodi Ellen Malpas has created such an intriguing story, which was completely captivating from beginning to end! I always love storylines surrounding the royal lifestyle, and her details and descriptions were perfect in submerging me in this complex and scandalous world of pomp and circumstance. The story was told from Adeline’s point of view, which revealed everything both good and bad that went on behind the scenes amongst the royal family, and only enhanced my feelings and compassion for her even more. The suspense and plot twists were surprising and heartbreaking. The ending? Oh my gosh!

I’m sitting on pins and needles for more of this Smoke & Mirrors Duology, and His True Queen is coming August 7^th!
