Someone Else’s Ocean

by Kate Stewart

Standalone, Contemporary Romance

Cover Designed by: Amy Queau- Q Design Cover and Premades

The first time I met Ian Kemp in the sparkling blue waters of St. Thomas, I was six years old and we shared a summer beneath the stars.

The second time I met Ian Kemp, he was a shell of the boy I once knew. Turbulent and infuriating, he refused my friendship at every turn. Like me, he was a casualty of life’s cruelty, but we were planets apart.

We’d both sought refuge on the island, hoping to find our anchor. Instead, we found each other and managed to reclaim our stars…until we both got swept away.

Where do I even begin to describe this beautiful romance? Kate Stewart’s writing always gives me all the feels. In fact, I usually need a box of tissue by my side in order to deal with the gamut of emotions that her stories put me through, but they are always well worth it. Set on the dreamy tropical island of St. Thomas, Someone Else’s Ocean is the perfect getaway read! This heartwarming and inspiring story reveals the healing power and strength of love and is a gentle reminder that there is always a possibility to find true love when you least expect it!

I absolutely fell in love with Koti and Ian’s characters in the story!

‘It was my one and only warning to rid myself of a life that slowly killing me anyway. I obeyed. I yielded to that warning. And so, I’m here living someone else’s life, in someone else’s house staring at someone else’s ocean.’

Although Koti faced many personal challenges, she was so courageous in stepping out of her suffocating life to find and create one that worked and made her happy. I loved that she was honest with herself regarding her emotional capabilities, and I really enjoyed that she maintained a fun and sassy sense of humor about herself as well. Koti was such a generous and giving person and truly had a heart of gold!

‘I felt oddly emotional as I watched their interaction. It was like watching the most important part of Ian in those moments with his daughter. Their love was palpable, their relationship completely unique.’

Ian was an incredibly loving father to his daughter, Ella. He didn’t allow the fact that she was deaf to be looked upon as a weakness, and I admired that he gave all he had to show his love for her and instilling the confidence that she needed to feel like any other child. Ian was such a good and honorable man, and my heart totally went out to him with the shocking news that drove him to escape to St. Thomas.

Although Ian and Koti knew each other from their childhood, they found each other again under the worst circumstances. Ian’s extreme anger and resentment was definitely overwhelming, but Koti’s gentle support and no-nonsense nature helped to comfort and ease his pain. They formed a strong bond of friendship and understanding, and it seemed only natural for their attraction to come to light and their feelings to intensify. Their journey toward finding their happily ever after was along a very bumpy road and filled with such a slow burning passion and angst. They were both so deserving of happiness, and I hoped so badly they would find it together!

‘…what’s inside of you is a heart that is dying to live, and your head is too afraid to let you do it fully, the way you deserve.’

Stewart has such an outstanding ability to create the most flawed and relatable characters and then completely consuming me in their journeys. I really like that she often gives her characters realistic challenges that many people are faced with and bringing awareness to them in her storylines. Mental illness, raising a deaf child, and having a fear of death are just a few that were addressed in this story. The transformation of Ian and Koti’s characters as they overcame their obstacles shone so brightly and left my heart overflowing at their outcomes!

I loved that the story took place on the tropical island of St. Thomas! Stewart’s descriptive writing really took me to away to the ocean breezes and island feel, which was both dreamy and romantic. The pacing was a bit slow in the first half of the book, but there was a lot to introduce in Ian and Koti’s complex story, including the wonderful supporting cast of characters!

Stewart also created another wonderful playlist for Someone Else’s Ocean, which is a great accompaniment to the story. I swear we must be kindred spirits somehow, because her selections feature some of my all-time favorite songs from the Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam, The Police, Ryan Adams, Stevie Nicks, Bob Marley, Mazzy Star, and Len. I definitely recommend checking it out!

Kate Stewart proves herself time and time again, which is why she has become one of my favorite authors. Someone Else’s Ocean was a such a dreamy island romance and provided for the perfect reading escape! Koti’s friend, Jasmine, has a story coming soon as well in Falling Over Forty!

Abouttheauthor

www.dgbookblog.com:KateStewart.profile

Kate Stewart lives in Charleston, S.C. with her husband, Nick, and her naughty beagle, Sadie. A native of Dallas, Kate moved to Charleston three weeks after her first visit, dropping her career of 8 years, and declaring it her creative muse. Kate pens messy, sexy, angst-filled contemporary romance as well as romantic comedy and erotic suspense because it’s what she loves as a reader. A lover of all things ’80s and ’90s, especially John Hughes films and rap, she dabbles a little in photography, can knit a simple stitch scarf for necessity only and does a horrible job of playing the ukulele. Aside from running a mile without collapsing, traveling is the only other must on her bucket list. On occasion, she does very well at vodka.
