Well, wow, wow, and wow! Can L.J. Shen bring on the angst or what???

Seriously, she is the bomb when it comes to angsty, unique, and gripping stories, and since I got lost in audiobook hell for about a quarter of this year, I am super excited to find some really fantastic ones lately!

In a nutshell, Pretty Reckless really blew me away! Where Shen always excels at writing fantastic a-hole alphas to adore, she turned the tables in this one with the heroine in the story, Daria. Spoiled, spiteful, and given the world, she was easy to hate from the get-go. In turn, I couldn’t help but feel for Penn in as he tried to overcome all of his challenges and loss during his childhood. They shared such animosity towards each other that combusted into passion and later transitioned into understanding and a very unexpected love. I really admired and loved how Daria and Penn’s characters evolved throughout the story, which was actually very sweet in the end. The narrators were fantastic and had such an edge in their voices that made it impossible not to feel all the passion and emotions in this romance!

Since I enjoyed the audiobook for Pretty Reckless so much, I also wanted to hear the audible for the second book in the All Saints High Series, Broken Knight as well. Knight and Luna’s journey gave me all the feels – it was so emotional and quite heartbreaking. As childhood best friends, they were each other’s everything, and their fear that their love for each other would ruin their friendship pushed them apart and in different directions. Where Luna completely blossomed in the story, Knight’s path was of a loss and total destruction that brought me to tears.

Although different narrators than Pretty Reckless, again it was the narration that really enhanced the passion and emotion into this story for me. I wasn’t prepared to be so consumed, and I actually listened to the audiobook and read the e-book when my earbuds weren’t appropriate, like family dinners haha! The angst just gave me such a knot in my stomach with hope for Knight and Luna to see the light and find their way to each other in the end!

Between L.J. Shen’s flawed yet endearing characters in Pretty Reckless and Broken Knight along with the emotional narration of both, I absolutely enjoyed this introduction of the ‘Tot-holes’ and their relationships with each other in this All Saints High Series. Although some parts were very sad, it was also great revisiting their ‘Hot-hole’ parents from her Sinners of Saint Series and combined, they all make up one big crazy, protective, and loving family that you surprisingly adore!
