In her latest book, ‘Brooklyn & Beale,’ Olivia Evans orchestrates a love story full of passion igniting into a beautifully romantic song with lyrics to melt your heart! She takes us on a journey of two musicians’ lives who struggle for success both professionally and personally. With her great sense of humor, Evans also adds just the perfect touch of wit and humor to keep it a light and fun read. I absolutely loved her first book ‘Hollywood & Vine,’ and I am now completely enamored with this one as well!
Struggling violinist, Chloe Bennett, is chosen to fill in for Indie rocker Reid Ryder’s tour. She is looking for a stable income, he is looking for a redemption tour to replace the bad publicity of his first, and neither has any idea of the undeniable connection they will have with the other. As they spend countless hours together while on tour, their friendship grows and neither can deny that something more is developing between them…but there is one major obstacle…Reid’s girlfriend Jess.
In three days, they would head back to the States. In three days, he would wake up and Chloe wouldn’t be there. The pit of his stomach twisted and his chest tightened. She wasn’t even gone, and he missed her already. Just the thought of being away from her, even though she was sitting right next to him, hurt more than Jess being on the other side of the world. It was the first time Reid truly began to realize just how far he’d fallen.
Chloe had such a unique style with her joking ways, her love of Starbursts, and her Jedi mastery skills! She was just what someone like Reid needed in his life to stay light-hearted, and she inspired him to stay true to himself as a musician and helped him to find his ability to write music again. Their passion and longing for each other was off the charts, and as Reid worked on ‘sorting himself out,’ I so hoped for them to end up together.
I loved the witty banter between Chloe and Reid and their bandmates – they were like one big family and certainly funny and entertaining! It was also good to see some of the ‘Hollywood & Vine’ cast, and I wonder if we will get a follow up story here as well (maybe Inky and Greer?).
I really like that Olivia Evans’ novels are full length, and she leaves you feeling complete at the end of her books. Ok, I guess I might have liked to know a little more at the end of this one, but I am optimistic that maybe she will write another one sometime in the future that will let us know what they’re all up to. A final note, I usually just skim over song lyrics in books, and they don’t really affect me either way. However, Reid’s song to Chloe was so very touching to me – beautiful!
Absolutely loved it & definitely recommend it – 5 Stars!
