Well damn, ‘Rock’ was just an incredible book! Being that this is the first book that I have read by J.A. Huss, I wasn’t really sure what to expect of her writing, but I quickly snagged it up since I always enjoy a good romantic suspense novel. So I will be the first to admit that in the beginning, I had absolutely no idea what the heck was going on and found myself scrambling to fit together pieces of this very puzzling story. I was reading in such a frenzy and felt just mind boggled, because I could not figure out what was going to happen next. By the end, I was completely blown away at what an incredible story this was – what a crazy ride!
Rock is forced to return to his hometown to recover from severe damage to his voice resulting from a tragic accident. Going back to his hometown means facing his past and everything he lost and left behind four years ago- including his family, friends, and the sister of the only woman he could ever love and that he lost.
‘It’s a love affair. It’s a deep longing. It’s one of the many, many things I am now missing in my empty soul.’
‘Rock’, ‘RK’, Rowan Kyle, the man of many nicknames, was such an intriguing character. Although I wasn’t really sure that I liked him at first, he was so damaged and broken from all the tragedy in his life that I couldn’t help but feel for him. He was so lost and angry and convinced he was empty and all alone. As the story unfolded, I better understood him and found myself absolutely adoring this complex and contradicting man. He came across so brash and mean, and yet there was another side to him where he could be caring and loving.
There were so many layers and twists and turns in this story, and I honestly was just so amazed at the feelings this book evoked from me! I am so impressed and intrigued by J.A. Huss and her creative artistry in her writing. I absolutely loved the ‘EOBS’ (End of Book Shit) after the epilogue, and yes I even watched the video of her song and her references she mentioned. She seems very real, candid, and so down to earth, and that is probably reflected in her writing and how she was able to draw me deep into this story and the characters. She definitely seems like the type of lady that I would love to enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine with one day – my goodness I can only imagine the conversation!
Now I need to decide which one of the many of her other books to read next… I will have to toss a coin because they all look fantastic, and after reading ‘Rock’ I am sure that it would probably be best for me to prepare myself for another wild ride!
I am so excited that I happened upon J.A. Huss – this was a truly unique and incredible story by an author that I greatly look forward to reading many more books from!
