Well, this is my second ‘cocky’ book review this week, but how can you go wrong with a Cocky Chef and an Australian Cocky Bastard? I’ve had this read by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward on my ‘to be read’ shelf for quite awhile now and decided to give it a go!

Synopsis:

He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.

A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.

When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.

My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.

I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Let’s just say that Aubrey and her hot Australian stranger, Chance, went on quite the adventure!

I really enjoyed both of their characters and their unexpected relationship in the story! Aubrey had so much more courage than she gave herself credit for. She not only moved across the country to find her fresh start, but she made a deal to allow a complete stranger into her car, which totally freaked me out! Although I couldn’t have done that myself, I could see it was a necessary situation, and underneath Chance’s arrogance, his intentions seemed true. Let’s put it this way, he didn’t seem like a serial killer!

Aubrey and Chance’s banter was really fun to follow as they volleyed back and forth throughout the story, and there were definitely sparks flying on their crazy journey! I loved Chance’s quick wit and humor with Aubrey. He really pushed all of her limits and got her to step outside of her box and be herself. He seemed to be so sweet and genuine, and she was surprisingly feisty! The first half of the story was told in Aubrey’s point of view, and the second half of the story was told in Chance’s. I don’t want to give too much away, but Chance was a complete doll! I loved his determination, loyalty, and boy was he a romantic! I was so happy to see that Aubrey found her footing and passion on her own terms as well.

And then the goat…that damn goat had me laughing the moment he was introduced into the story!

I have to say that I certainly did not see the story unfolding the way it did… At. All.  The build of passion had totally exploded and then, well…  I was so frustrated with their whole situation, and they just seemed meant for each other! However, I always enjoy a little yearning and angst and actually think that’s what made the story even better. It could have been easy for Aubrey and Chance, but their struggle really kept me engaged and certainly kept me guessing. Although the second half of the story did go on a bit for me, it also made the ending all the sweeter!

This is my first read by this writing duo, and I really enjoyed this charming escape! It was a lot of fun with a lot of quick wit and humor. The writing was very well done, and the touch of angst and twist in the story gave even more intrigue and depth. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a quick read with a really sweet story and adventure to boot!
