DaisyGal’s Review:

This is the first standalone in A.L. Jackson’s new Fight for Me Series, and what a great beginning! Show Me the Way is an emotional story of being broken, overcoming pain and regret, and taking chances to move on to find love and happiness. It is angsty, suspenseful, and a beautifully written romance!

Rynna and Rex were both very passionate and complex characters with many dimensions stemming from their troubled pasts. I admired Rynna’s determination to move forward, carry on her grandmother’s legacy, and not be ruled by her fear anymore. Initially, I really didn’t like Rex at all and couldn’t imagine him as a love interest for Rynna. I understood her feelings toward his sweet relationship with his adorable daughter, Sweet Pea Frankie Leigh, but he was so rude to her that I couldn’t really see her strong desire to be with him past that. However, as more of his past was revealed, I was blown away at all he had been through. My heart totally went out to Rex, and as I saw a different side to him, I really admired his strength. I knew he was an awesome daddy, but I loved seeing that he also came to be an incredibly gentle and loving man with Rynna as well.

Rynna’s relationship with her grandmother, Corinne, and her reminiscence of her childhood with her triggered a lot of emotions in me. When you are young, you don’t always realize how meaningful moments and family relationships can be until all you have left are memories. As the story wove through the past and present, Rynna’s nostalgia of growing up in her grandmother’s home, the smells of baking with her, and being at the diner brought back memories of my own past. Although Rynna was filled with sadness and regret for not appreciating those times spent with her grandmother more, she came to realize the impact of them and what an amazing role model her grandmother was for her growing up. Corinne was strong, loved fiercely and unconditionally, and never judged Rynna for her decisions, always believing in her until the very end. She left lasting footprints for Rynna to follow to become an amazing woman herself. As I reflected back on my relationship with my own grandmother, I can only hope that someday I will be able to do the same for my grandchildren.

‘All moments matter. We just rarely know how important they are until the chance to act on them has already passed.’

This really is a beautifully written story! There is always so much feeling in A.L. Jackson’s writing, and I find comfort in her eloquent words. It is told from both Rynna and Rex’s point of views, and since I have come to notice it in all of her stories, I have to mention that I feel she does a great job with her male dialogue. It’s a bit choppier and more direct, which I feel really conveys the male point of view very realistically. I also really enjoyed the brotherly relationships that Rex had with his friends, Ollie and Kale, and I am looking forward to knowing their stories next in Follow Me Back and Lead Me Home!

As this story unfolded, piece by piece, Jackson had me simmering with anticipation with the conclusion – what a suspenseful and sweet ending! This is a very enjoyable read, and I highly recommend checking it out!
