2018 Ultimate Reading Challenge ~ Review of Royally Screwed (Audiobook) by Emma Chase!

The lovely ladies from Reading Frenzy Book Blog and Collectors of Book Boyfriends and Girlfriends have combined their awesomeness and invited me to take part in their monthly 2018 Ultimate Reading Challenge!

January’s theme is a ‘re-read of an old favorite,’ which is actually a pretty big challenge for me. I honestly don’t re-read books very often… I already know what happens! Anyway, I am not easily deterred, so I selected a fun 5-Star favorite from 2016 with Royally Screwed by Emma Chase!

While I was at it, I also decided to put on another twist on it and went for the audiobook version. Guess what? I’m not a big fan of audiobooks! Yep, I’m probably one of the few. I  tend to easily lose interest with them, and I get frustrated dealing with earbuds, cords, and where to place my phone while listening. Clearly, I’m not a very patient person! I thought I would give it another go, and how could I go wrong with a sexy British accent to make this journey even sweeter? Good news, this audiobook totally won me over!

Royally Screwed Audio Cover

Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series & Legal Briefs Series, returns with the first of three sizzling standalone books about a family of racy, irresistible Royals…

Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka “His Royal Hotness”, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant—hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.

Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.

***

Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.

There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately—the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.

But to Olivia—Nicholas is worth it.

***

Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is, but more importantly, who he wants to be: a King… or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

www.dgbookblog.com/MyReviewRoyally Screwed is such a fun, dreamy, and genuinely touching romance! Emma Chase’s writing talent is impeccable as always, and I was completely drawn into this unique royal lifestyle, which she conveyed so well. I love that her stories tend to lean more towards the light-hearted side and don’t torture you with angst. They seem to offer just enough of a challenge to keep you engaged and make the story more real and true to life. She has such a talent in creating arrogant and adorable alpha males and making you totally fall in love with them and then complementing them with equally strong heroines which give respect to their relationships. Topped off with Chase’s wit, humor, and passionate characters, this romance completely touched my heart!

Shane East and Andi Arndt were fantastic with their narration of Nicholas and Olivia, and this talented pair totally captured my attention and the heart of the characters! Of course, East had me captivated with Nicholas’s British accent alone, but hearing his wit and phrases in their intended accent really enhanced his character even more. ‘His Royal Hotness’ was portrayed with the perfect balance of charm, tenderness, and cocky air. At the same time, Arndt did a great job combining Olivia’s witty humor and down to earth style with her awe in going out with the royal prince.

There was so much personality and passion in their voices that truly brought all of the characters to life for me in this story. The sexy scenes sizzled and made me giggle and blush. Is that strange? It’s a lot different hearing the words from reading them!

Everything was beautifully captured in this audiobook of Royally Screwed! It made my heart go pitter-patter and delivered all of the emotion that I was hoping for from this sweet romance. I absolutely enjoyed this and highly recommend it!

I’m really excited about February’s theme, because I have a ‘new to me’ author that I have been dying to read! Everyone I know who’s read her writing adores her and the way she consistently touches her readers’ hearts in so many ways. Can you guess who she might be? Those of you that follow my blog probably can, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you on this book next month. You may have to share some kleenex with me!
