What happens when bad meets good? Get ready to find out. Only this time the bad isn’t who you think it is. It was a one-night stand, until she forced him to change the rules.
I met Sarah at the airport.
Clumsy.
Uncertain.
Sassy.
Not my type at all–which is what attracted me to her.
My flight had been canceled and I mistakenly thought hers had too.
One drink leads to casual conversation–she’d recently been canned and I’d just attended my ex-fiancée’s wedding.
Can you say–how about another drink?
I can.
Heck yeah.
Three drinks leads to getting a little closer–I slide a hand on her thigh and my fingertips under the hem of her skirt.
Five drinks leads to a proposition–a hotel room and nothing more.
After an unforgettable night, I wake up alone and pissed as h*ll.
How was I to know my self-proclaimed one-night stand would bite me in the ass?
That Sarah would jeopardize everything I’d worked for.
That Sarah wasn’t really Sarah.
But then “Sarah” ends up in the same tropical location as I do.
Can you say–payback?
I can.
Karma baby.

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Kim Karr’s writing. Her romances are always the perfect combination of endearing characters, touching storylines, and crazy passion. She can write fun and light-hearted romance to a ‘T’, but this right here is my absolute favorite type. Come A Little Closer is mysterious, suspenseful, and loaded with steamy sizzle… This is Kim Karr’s writing at its best!
Sadie Banks has lost everything, including her job and the only family she had left. She feels like she’s pretty much at rock bottom, but when yet another tragedy arises, Sadie is forced to choose between right and wrong. Her decision could take her down an even darker path, but it could also lead her to paradise, freedom, and the man of her dreams.
Jaxson Cassidy, also known as ‘Sundance,’ was easy going and fun-loving but tired of always being the good guy and ending up last. His ex-fiancé not only broke his heart but just re-married, and he is just determined not be ‘that guy’ anymore. Now solely focused on his career, the ladies are off limits, but then he meets one in particular who not only puts his job at risk, but his heart as well…
The steam was flowing from my iPad while I was reading this! Seriously, Sadie and Jaxson shared a hot and unbridled passion together, and with all of their initial animosity, a relationship was definitely unexpected. However, everything just fell into place easily with them, because they not only found passion together but comfort in each other as well. It was if Sadie and Jaxson were kindred spirits or lost souls trying so hard to fight through life, and they just needed to be loved and understood.
‘I wanted to stay like this forever and never go back to where I’d come from but that was a wild fantasy made of fluffy white clouds.’
I loved that Come A Little Closer was more on the edgier and suspenseful side of romance with more mystery to the intriguing storyline. The story was fast paced and full of suspense and twists throughout. It had a thrilling feel to it that actually reminded me a bit of Blow and Crush from her Tainted Love Duet, which also kept me glued to the pages and I absolutely loved as well. Although the ending was maybe a little too perfect, it was still incredibly sweet!
I really enjoyed the travel escape to the tropical islands of Antigua, Barbados, and St. George for Jaxson’s photo shoots. I also liked how Karr incorporated more sensitive issues into the storyline, like growing up with alcoholic parents and the yellow ribbons tied to trees in hopes of friends and family returning home safely from their military service. These touching elements really brought more reality and emotion into the story.
It was also great to see Finn, Jaxson’s ex-fiancé, Jules, and her new husband, Jake from The Thing About Love again, and I am really looking forward to Finn’s story, which is coming this fall in Something Just Like This!
Such a great read, and I highly recommend it!

I know I’m chatting to you on IG so I could tell you there too but no….a comment is better 😀
Kickass review – I actually want to read this now despite hearing that KK writes formulaic romance. I think I’ll buy.
Actually the reason I did not read this book was because I found KK a bit formulaic. The Thing about Love was the first book I’d read by her and while it wasn’t bad, it did not really leave me feeling like I wanted more of her.
But great review Daisy♥
Thank you!! I’m wondering if you’re the ‘formulaic’ gall…Astrid was telling me about one of her friends thinking that about her writing. I totally get that though and TTAL was not one of my favorites. Her earlier works were a lot different I thought, and that’s where I really fell in love with her writing. Toxic was my first and then Blow and Crush from her Tainted Love Duet. They were much faster paced, darker, and more suspenseful. The last year or so, she’s been more lighthearted and funny romance, which is ok, but I think she writes the other better. Maybe try those instead? =D
I kind of get bored with formulaic because.. Well aftermath of reading too much if Abbie Glines lol. I’ll give it a go if you say so😁
I totally understand that! Let me know if you decide to try her again – I would love to hear your thoughts!
I will! ❤️
Haha, thank you! Give it a go and maybe read her Tainted Love Duet and 27 Club too!
This one sounds really good though! I’m so intrigued!
Wonderful review Daisy!!! I’m glad she did not disappoint you in this one and it’s always great when we have characters from other books making an appearance in a sequel.
Yes! Thank you lovely lady! =D
