Trailer park born and raised. It’s my legacy. That’s how my mama lived. And that’s how her mama lived. It’s the life I was born into and it’s the life I swore I would leave the second I was old enough to make it out.

Only legacies have a funny way of sneaking up on you. An innocent decision the night of high school graduation led to a series of complications in my plans to escape.

Seven years later, I’ve resigned myself to this small town and the roots I’m tied to. Nothing could make me leave. And nothing could make me spill the secrets that keep me here.

Until he walks back into town with a chip on his shoulder and a stupid hunch nobody else in town has been smart enough to follow.

Levi Cole is my opposite. Born on the right side of the tracks with family money to spare, he’s the kind of black sheep that can afford to be rebellious—because his family will always pay for his mistakes. He’s also the only living heir to Cole Family Farms, after his brother Logan was killed in duty seven years ago.

He sees something in my life that he thinks he has a right to. But he’s wrong. And obnoxious. And he needs to take his stubborn good looks and that intense way he looks at me and go back to wherever it was he came from.

I know better than to trust men like him. I was born and raised in a trailer park, I know nothing good happens to girls like me—girls with trailer park lives and trailer park hearts. Especially from gorgeous, kind, pigheaded men like him.

I always enjoy a good slow-burning enemies-to-lovers romance, and Rachel Higginson has crafted such a sweet and absolutely heartwarming read with Trailer Park Heart! It was an emotional story with the perfect amount of angst that left me with a knot in my stomach, so filled with a hope for the underdog to win or for Cinderella to get her glass slipper!

I loved Ruby’s strong and steadfast spirit! Yes, she came from the wrong side of the tracks and had a chip on her shoulder from all the town scrutiny. However, Ruby worked hard to ignore it all and instead focused on a path to move away from her small town after high school graduation. All it took to flip her plans upside down was one decision, and it would forever change her hopes and dreams for the future.

‘He’d been too good to be true. Out of my league. Too close to the sun.’

Levi’s character was the perfect hero to really melt your heart! I felt for him in losing his brother, and although he had wealth and status, I could see that wasn’t what was important to him. Levi was genuinely a kind and caring man, and I admired his courage over the years in trying to let Ruby know that he saw her for who she was and not where she lived.

So, what was the pickle between Ruby and Max causing their enemies-to-lovers relationship? Well, you’ll just have to read the story to find out but know that these two both had very feisty attitudes and could spar like none other. It was entertaining to follow, but they were almost ruthless with each other at times!

‘Our rivalry had ended in the most explosive coming together of all time, neither of us coming out the victor, but both of us winning in the end.’

Ruby and Max’s journey was filled with mixed signals, secrets, slow-burning passion, and sizzling chemistry. I honestly can’t recall rooting so whole-heartedly for a heroine to get a happily-ever-after like I did for Ruby to get hers. She had to fight for everything in her life, and I so wanted her to continue fighting for the happiness that she truly deserved!

‘I had lived my whole life in a trailer park on the wrong side of the tracks. And maybe that was my life story, but it wasn’t the story of my heart. Not anymore.’

Higginson did a great job in creating this unique storyline, and while it was written with a light-hearted feeling to it, there was so much depth and emotion in both the characters and the story. I had a little bit of a disconnect because of redundancy in the very beginning, but once I found my way, I had a really hard time putting it down!

Trailer Park Heart was a sweet, passionate, and enjoyable read, and I highly recommend it!

“And I don’t even know what to tell you,” I cried some more. “Because my mistake led me to Max and for that reason I can never really regret it. But I hate how I hurt you. I hate that my mistakes meant pushing you away. I hate that I finally know how I feel about you and it’s too late.”

His eyes flashed with something so intense I gasped for breath. “How do you feel about me?” How could he ask me that now? How did he not know? How had he not always known? “Don’t make me say it,” I whispered, my voice dragged over gravel. “It hurts too much.” “Ruby,” he pleaded, his voice just as fragmented. “Say it. Please.”

I didn’t bother brushing away the tears, there were too many of them, my grief was too heavy. “I love you,” I whispered. “I’ve always loved you. I’ve just been too afraid to say it.”

To admit it.
