I’ve come to expect and love A.L. Jackson’s passionate, angsty, and sweet stories, and her Confessions of the Heart Series just keeps getting better and better! Pieces of Us had more emotion than I expected, wrapped me up in all the feels, and Mack and Izzy’s passionate second-chance romance is sure to melt your heart!
I’ve loved Mack’s loyalty and brotherly friendships with Jace and Ian in the previous books of the series and been curious to know this sexy detective’s story. I was completely unprepared for Mack’s deeply broken character. His terrible childhood had left him with a lifetime of scars, and the way he continued to punish and be unforgiving with himself for his past mistakes was really sad. Mack’s heart and the love that he had to offer were huge, and he definitely deserved it back in return!
‘She’d been my beginning. The girl had breathed her beauty and grace and goodness into my being. Made me think I could be something better. Saw me in a way I’d never seen myself.
In the same way, she’d been my ending.
My collision.
The breaking point of who I’d been and who I’d come to be.’
It would be impossible not to admire Izzy’s character. Strong-willed and never giving up, she waged war with her belief in those she loved. Izzy’s dedication to her boys, Dillon and Benjamin, was selfless, full of sacrifice, and she treasured every moment with them. After thirteen years away, Izzy was forced to return to her hometown, which also included facing her childhood love and the fear of her own past mistakes as well.
There were just so many layers to Mack and Izzy’s beautiful and passionate romance! It was heartbreaking with what they had missed during their years apart and how they struggled to find a way to put the pieces back together when they found each other again. Jackson’s angsty writing with Mack and Izzy’s longing for each other completely consumed me with hope, and then, of course, she gave them the most perfect happily ever after!

I love the family feel that Jackson has created with her secondary characters who have all touched my heart and given this series so much life. It was so great to see how Jace and Ian’s families had grown, and their continued brotherly support and love they had for Mack in finding his happiness was so touching. I absolutely adored Izzy’s sweet boys, as well as the relationship that she had with her parents. Her mother was as feisty as a firecracker, and there was so much honesty and love shared between them!
I haven’t heard if there will be any more books in this series, but it looks like there might possibly be some sparks between Izzy’s boss, Trevor, and her friend, Courtney… I’m really not ready for it to be over and fingers crossed for more of this closely-knit group of friends and family!
