Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.
Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.
Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.
Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.
The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.
Daisy Jones & The Six is my first read by Taylor Jenkins Reid and hands down one of the most unusual and surprisingly fantastic reads I’ve come across lately. I. Loved. It! Of course, I’m a huge music fan, but this is the kind of read that will stay with me for a long long time to come for so many reasons!
Why I loved it…
It’s about music, and I really enjoyed being pulled into the era of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll baby!
This documentary-style format was awesome and flowed effortlessly. I felt such a connection to the characters’ passion for music, and their emotions in the story seemed so tangible and real. It was as if I was along with them on their journey through all of the highs and lows of finding success and fame.
The narration was incredible with all of the characters each having different voices which made the story feel warm and consuming. Even while reflecting and writing this review, I can still hear them talking in my head. I feel like I’m doing it in Daisy’s voice and somehow Warren and Eddie are making me giggle with their off-handed comments in the background!
I highly recommend Daisy Jones & The Six! Whether you’re a big audiobook fan or not, I hope that you’ll give the audiobook format a try, but regardless, you’ll definitely want to pick up this ‘must-read’ romance!
