Featuring hackers, hockey players, and one of the most successful and eldest members of the team, Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen was a fun, suspenseful, and super sweet romance. What a great start to The Company Series!
Only in my family could a professional hockey player earning seven million dollars a year be considered a slacker.
I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.
Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.
But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.
So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?
It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major-league protector.
Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.
Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen is the first new standalone in The Company Series and a spin-off of her Brooklyn Series with those Brooklyn Bruiser hockey boys that I love so much. Featuring hackers, hockey players, and one of the most successful and eldest members of the team, Eric and Alex’s romance was really fun, suspenseful, and super sweet!
Eric’s character was confident with just the perfect touch of cocky and sweet, and he was such a sport both on and off the ice. I loved his determination and fight to overcome his injuries, but now that he was at the tail end of his hockey career, I really felt for his indecision with what the future would hold in store for him next.
Then enters Alex… The super sharp and successful CEO of her family’s company, and life had definitely thrown a little kink into her plans as well. My heart went out to her and what she faced ahead, but I absolutely admired her strength and courage in becoming a single parent and balancing her career at the same time.
With their fun banter, chemistry, and easy-going ways, Eric and Alex were so perfect for each other! Eric was so protective, and I adored his crazy attraction to Alex’s sexy belly and how her pregnancy didn’t sway him in the least. Like all the obstacles that crossed their path, they simply took everything in stride. Their sled moment about killed me, but I’m glad it didn’t because I got to see that Alex, Eric, and little Rosie got the super sweet happy ending that they deserved!
There was so much to this romance that I absolutely loved! Plots with hackers are always a hit with me, and I’m so intrigued by The Company and the mystery behind Eric’s brother’s secret business. The pacing got a little slow for me in the middle of the story, but I really enjoyed the added suspenseful moments that came about. I do wish the hacker mystery in the plot would have been resolved and tied up with a big pretty bow in the end, but perhaps it will come to light further on in the series.
Moonlighter was definitely an enjoyable read, and now that the stage is set, I’m really looking forward to more of The Company Series!
