After the jaw-dropping cliffhanger in Jodi Ellen Malpas’s The Controversial Princess, I could not wait for the next book in the Smoke & Mirrors Duology! I honestly had no idea what would be in store for Princess Adeline and her American boy, and if there was any possible way for them to be together and share their true love. His True Queen was a thrilling conclusion, full of suspenseful twists and sizzling passion, making this incredibly sweet love story into a scorching hot romance!

I absolutely enjoyed seeing Adeline fall into her new role! She had such a charming and graceful demeanor about her, but I was most impressed with her backbone of steel when she was fighting for what she believed in. As the world now bowed to Adeline, there was still one man who would not, and it was one of the many things that I loved about Josh. With his compensatory for using bad language, his character was just honest and real and not about the ‘show’ as you might expect an actor to be.

‘Fuck right now. I want forever, and I want it out there in the big, wide, terrifying world.’

Josh’s determination in finding a way for them to be together and professions of love for Adeline were so completely romantic. Yet he refused to see her as anything more than the woman he simply loved and adored, his queen.

‘To the world you are the Queen of England… But to me, you are everything.’     

Although everything had changed, and the odds were completely stacked against them, the love and desire between the new queen and her American boy never faltered. It actually smoldered until it could no longer be contained!

‘You and I will only ever live in the moment, because that’s the only choice we have.’

I have to throw kudos to Adeline’s bodyguard, Damon, because I absolutely adored his character and loyalty! Professionally, he protected her come hell or high water, but I loved the lengths that he would also go in ‘keeping the boss lady happy.’ Damon knew what the Monarchy required but also understood what Adeline needed in order to survive living in it. 

“Love doesn’t change because the world does, ma’am,” Damon says gently.

Whether it was reinforcing her confidence, having a much-needed cigarette and anti-bacterial hand soap on hand when she was at her wit’s end, or even respectfully putting her in her place when necessary, Damon was more than a bodyguard. He was Adeline’s only true friend, and she could count on him to always have her back!

Jodi Ellen Malpas has scripted an incredible storyline within this creative British Monarchy, full of lies and deceit. Her descriptions and settings submerged me into the world of royalty, which was very intriguing and engaging. The complex story was filled with emotion along with twists and turns that kept me flying through the pages. I also loved the witty dialogue between the characters, which gave the story a realistic feel and made for really fun read as well!

I absolutely enjoyed the exciting Smoke and Mirrors Duology! I’m also a bit of a sucker for sequels and spin-offs, so perhaps there might be a tale for Eddie or Damon as well? Regardless, I can’t recommend this enough!
