‘The Play’ by Karina Halle – 5 Star Review!

The Play - Cover

Do you have a favorite author whom you cannot wait for their next book to come out?  When it does, do you put off reading said book, because then you won’t have any more of their books to read until the next one comes out??

Karina Halle is that favorite author for me, and she has yet to disappoint me in any way with her writings.  Her charming character depth and unique story lines ignite incredible heart and passion into her books that tug at readers’ emotions.  I also really love when her characters get to travel in her books – she has such a way with her storytelling that makes me feel I am a part of the journey as well!

Her latest novel, ‘The Play,’ was completely heartfelt and engaging in every way possible. Lachlan McGregor, ‘Mr. Antisocial,’ and Kayla Moore, ‘Miss Man-Whore,’ are introduced to each other and unite in this super sexy and steamy romance.  Although they were individually working through their inner turmoils, Kayla with her fear of family loss, and Lachlan with his past abandonment issues and demons with addictions, they began to open up and break through each others boundaries. Together they shared courage, strength, and determination to overcome each of their obstacles in order to succeed in their relationship together and love for each other.

I can see all your cracks and your darkness and your flaws and I fall in love with it all. And I hope you can fall in love with everything that I am, all that lurks in my dark, all that shines in my light. I want you to love every little piece of me, because it all belongs to you. – Lachlan

I thoroughly loved Lachlan and Kayla together!  She had such patience and quick wit, and who wouldn’t love a Scottish rugby player with an accent?  The story was ‘oh so angsty,’ and their uncontrollable passion together was incredible!

‘There was nothing I could do.  She’s a riptide.  I’m just a man without oars.’ – Lachlan

I found myself completely drawn in from the very beginning, and I could NOT put this book down! I couldn’t wait to see how everything would all resolve as I followed them in seeking their love from California to Scotland and back.  Since it was two books in one, it was a little longer read (which I loved), and I was completely consumed until the very last page (sorry kids, sandwiches for dinner again)!

I was also happy to see Kayla’s great friends, Stephanie and Nicola, as well as Lachlan’s cousins, Linden and Bram, from her previous books ‘The Pact’ and ‘The Offer’.  These books can all be read as standalones, and they each have their own unique story lines.  In reading them all however, you can better understand each of the individual characters.

I don’t want to leave out the pups here either!  I am so touched by both Halle’s passion displayed in her writings but in her personal life as well.  Kudos to Halle for supporting this fantastic cause by donating a portion of her proceeds from ‘The Play’ to help her animal rescue organizations!

This is definitely a must read and positively a ‘5 Star’ rating for me!
